My sister is doing this extreme organizing after reading a japanese book about organizing. Decluttering's been all the rage lately, hasn't it?

Yeah, I've heard too about these folks, mostly Japanese it seems, going full on minimalist and fitting their whole lives in a backpack, claiming it's like finding inner peace.

Looking around my place, I gotta admit, I've got a ton of STUFF that feels more like a burden than a blessing bcs of all that moving, cleaning, and fixing.

But man, trying to get motivated to ditch a bunch of things I might need "someday"? It's like pulling teeth!

Does anyone else feel this? How do you reduce these feelings and become less attached to things we don't need?

Recommend me a good book or a YT channel for beginner decluttering, thank you people!

I got rid of 20 bin bags of mixed trash, recycling, and stuff to donate a few weeks ago. It feels kind of empty, like it really shows I live by myself, haha.

That "might need it someday" voice in your head is the biggest reason stuff piles up. I used to move every year or so and every box I carried felt like a reminder I hadn't figured it out yet.
If you want more of a straight shooter perspective, Fumio Sasaki's Goodbye, Things hit me harder. He explains how letting go isn't really about losing anything it's about getting space back, both mentally and physically.

It's completely normal to feel that way!
Starting small can make a huge difference, like pick one drawer or one shelf or one corner, and just focus first solely on that!
For books, I recommend Decluttering at the Speed of Life by Dana K. White. She has a very practical, no-nonsense approach that addresses common stumbling blocks!
Also, I just want to highlight that what @Brian G said is so nice and true!
Letting go is claiming your space back, and this shift in perspective can also be very helpful!

@s1mone I second Dana K. White's book. She gets it without making you feel like a hoarder. Her stuff is super easy to follow when you're just starting out. Also @Brian G that "someday" trap got me too. Moving a few times finally broke that habit real quick. :) Anyway OP I recommned Clutterbug as well :)
